Mount Joy Township has awarded a contract Penn Waste Inc. for the weekly pickup of recycling and trash for the period of January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2012 for the entire Township.
The primary benefits of this program include: weekly curbside collection of trash and recyclable materials, more effective collection resulting in less truck traffic in residential neighborhoods, fall leaf collection, woody yard waste collection (April-October), Christmas tree collection and a direct financial incentive for residents to reduce waste and increase recycling.
Penn Waste’s costs, along with the Township’s trash tipping fees and administrative costs, are included in the yearly fee of $198.00 per household. If you choose to prepay for services for the entire year, you receive an $8.00 discount for a total of $190.00 per year.
The services offered in the Township Contract Program for the base price of $198.00 per year include:
? Three (3) containers (32 gallon bags or trashcans at 30 lbs each) per week.
? Weekly curbside collection of glass/metal containers, plastic bottles #1 & #7 (with neck smaller than body), newspapers, inserts, food boxes, paperboard packaging(i.e. cereal, jello, Kleenex boxes), paper towel & toilet paper rolls, office paper, junk mail, catalogs & magazines, paper bags, phone books, cardboard boxes, pizza boxes and shredded paper.
? Four (4) free collections each fall of leaves placed in Kraft paper bags (available for this purpose from the Township)
? Free collection of Christmas trees one day each January.
Additional collection services provided with the purchase of extra service tags include:
? Extra trash containers at $1.25 each.
? Oversized refuse (items that don’t fit in a trash container) at $4.00 per item.
? White goods (appliances) collection at $12.00 per item.
? Tire collection at $1.50 per tire. (on or off the rim, limit of 10 tires per address)
? Bi-Monthly woody yard waste collection (April-October) Bundle or bag your items in a Kraft paper bags provided by the Township. Tags are no longer required. No more than 20 bags and/or bundles permitted for each pickup.
This contract program is open to all residential property owners, including multifamily dwellings containing up to three (3) units. Owners of rental units are reminded that whether they enroll in the Contract Program or use another licensed hauler for dumpster service, they are responsible for trash collection and recycling for all tenants.
Tenants wishing to enroll in the program must have the property owner sign and return an enrollment form to receive service from the Township.
Beginning January 1, 2010 all residential addresses will be serviced by the Mount Joy Township Contracted Hauler.
